NEWSPAPER HEADLINES

Here is a brief guide to the “rules” by which English newspaper headlines are written:

The article and the verb to be are omitted.

The present tenses are used to describe something which has happened, is happening, or happens repeatedly.

When the present continuous is used, the auxiliary verb to be is omitted.

To refer to the future, the infinitive with to is used.

Passive sentences are written without their auxiliary verbs.

There are a number of words which are specifically used in headlines (e.g. quit is often used instead of resign)

DO IT YOURSELF

WIN WIN
(NOS BENEFICIAMOS TODOS)

That benefits both or all parties, or that has two distinct benefits .
This is a win win situation (Una situación que todos nos beneficiamos)
Se benefician todas las partes

The internship requirement for graduation has proved to be a win-win venture; companies receive the benefit of creative students with cutting-edge technical skills, while the students gain real-world experience in their chosen profession

ECHAR A ALGUIEN DE SU TRABAJO
DESPEDIR A ALGUIEN DE SU TRABAJO

El término más formal y legal es

TO DISMISS

Mr. Archad dismissed his old secretary

TO SACK

Se utiliza más en Reino Unido

More than 40 Union Officers were sacked for defending worker rights

TO FIRE

I fired the babysitter because she never played with children

TO MAKE REDUNDANT

The profits were decreasing so many employees were made redundant.

TO AX

The goverment plans to ax many civil servants next year.

TO LET GO

John was let go from company
