Usamos had better para dar consejos o recomendaciones en un tono más fuerte que el de should o must, casi como una amenaza.

We use had better to talk about actions we think people should do or which are desirable in a specific situation. The verb form is always had, not have. We normally shorten it to ’d better in informal situations.

Had better is followed by the infinitive without to: It’s five o’clock. I’d better go now before the traffic gets too bad.Not: I’d better to go now.The democratic movement had better concentrate on the immediate issues of the economy and security. (more formal)

Se puede traducir como, "Más te vale"

ESTRUCTURA CAUSATIVA

Esta estructura se utiliza para indicar que otra persona hace algo por nosotros

"to have something done"

“hacer hacer”
“mandar a hacer algo”

Se usa la estructura pasiva to have something + participio para expresar que le hemos encargado a alguien que nos haga algo, sin tener que especificar quién. Se puede emplear en cualquier tiempo verbal.

• I had my car painted. (Me pintaron el coche.)

La estructura básica es la siguiente: sujeto + to have en pasado, presente o futuro (según corresponda) + sujeto + participio pasado del verbo principal.

Observa estos otros ejemplos:

• She usually has her hair cut at that hairdresser´s.
• Ella se suele cortar el cabello en esa peluquería
• Will you have your eyes checked? (¿Te mirarán la vista?)

Al tratarse de una variante de la voz pasiva, si se quisiera mencionar quién realiza la acción, se añadiría by seguido de la persona que realiza la acción.

Por ejemplo:

I had my kitchen painted by John.

When someone  carries the torch, they hold onto a tradition. can be passed on by family members, teachers, people who do the same kind of work or hobby you do.

“My mom was a great singer, and I’m going to carry the torch of her great talent in my musical career.”

“We carry the torch of our parents’ traditions and values.”

“If someone is carrying the torch, they are working hard to make a tradition grow stronger.”

En español se puede traducir como “seguir con la tradición” o “tomar el relevo”
