USOS DE "AS"

COMO USAR “AS”

Comparisons: as + adjective + as. Example: I’m as tall as my little brother = tan alto/a como
Jobs. Example: I work as a teacher = yo soy profesora, trabajo de profesora.
En calidad de. Example: don’t use that plate as an ashtray = no uses ese plato de cenicero, en calidad de cenicero.
Conjunction= como. Example: as I’m working now, I can give my brother good presents = como estoy trabajando le puedo hacer a mi hermano buenos regalos. Observa que en este ejemplo, as va seguido de sujeto + verbo. Otro ejemplo: As I don’t like my shoes, I’ll give them away = como no me gustan los zapatos, los donaré.
As + usual/ always. Con estas palabras, usual y always, se utiliza as.Example: she got angry, as always = se enfadó, como siempre.
As con el significado de while (mientras).Example: as John was studying hard for the exam, his best friend was having a weekend away, which is why he failed the exam = mientras Juan estaba estudiando mucho para el examen, su mejor amigo estaba fuera de fin de semana, por eso luego suspendió el examen.

Usain Bolt became one of  world’s the most celebrated sportsman after his record breaking runs in the Olympic Games of 2008, where he won three gold medals and set records at 100m and 200m. He went on to win three more gold medals at the London 2012 Olympics. Usain was born on 21 August 1986 in Sherwood Content, a small town in Trelawny, Jamaica. As a youngster he was mostly interested in sports, spending time playing football, cricket and basketball. At one time he considered a career as a cricketer, but, his natural talent for sprinting shone through and so he was encouraged to take the path of sprinting. At 15 years old, Usain already towered over his fellow competitors. Growing to a height of 6 foot 5 inches, Usain showed a sprinted need not be short and powerful like previous sprinting greats. In 2002, he won Gold in the World Junior Championships in the 200 metres. At this stage in his career, Usain appeared to give the impression of being quite laid back. He didn’t lead an austere disciplined life, but, enjoyed dancing and the night-life of Kingston, Jamaica.

Millones de usuarios españoles, latinoamericanos e hispanos de Estados Unidos llaman "maus" al ratón, prefieren "chatear" a charlar y "downlodear" a descargar o "printean" sus documentos en vez de imprimirlos.
Los lingüistas indican que se trata de "code-switching o de un código cambiante, es decir, una alternancia de ambas lenguas al hablar, con pocas reglas o de muchas variaciones de tipo léxico, e incluso morfológico.
Al incorporarse a la radio, la televisión, la prensa escrita, ya ha dejado de ser un fenómeno oral para convertirse también en uno escrito.

If you ask most skygazers to name their favorite meteor shower, they will say “Perseid”. This annual shower seemingly has it all: It offers a consistently high rate of meteors year after year; it produces a higher percentage of bright ones than most other showers; it occurs in August when many people take summer vacation; and it happens at a time when nice weather and reasonable nighttime temperatures are common north of the equator. No other major shower boasts all four of these attributes.

The best views will come in the predawn hours of Friday morning the 12th, after the waxing gibbous Moon sets around 1 a.m. local daylight time. The spectacle will continue to improve as dawn approaches because the shower’s radiant — the spot on the border between the constellations Perseus and Cassiopeia where the meteors appear to emanate from — climbs higher.

As always, you’ll see more meteors at a viewing site far from any artificial lights. Look about two-thirds of the way from the horizon to the zenith, but don’t get tunnel vision gazing at one location. Let your eyes wander so your peripheral vision can pick up meteors you otherwise might not see. Keep comfortable by reclining in a lawn chair or lying on an air mattress. And bring along a sweater or light jacket. Even if evening temperatures are comfortable, you won’t be active and can get chilled in a hurry.

New research shows that people who read a lot live longer. The study was carried out by researchers from Yale University in the USA. The researchers said reading keeps the mind active, helps reduce stress and makes us take better care of our health. The researchers said that books help the brain more than newspapers and magazines, but any kind of reading will help us to live longer. Even reading for half an hour a day could help us to live longer. In the study, researchers looked at the lifestyles of 3,500 men and women over a 12-year period. They looked at their reading habits, health, lifestyle and their education. All of the people were at least 50 years old at the start of the research.

La forma "ing" se traduce de varias maneras.

1- Como gerundio

2- Como adjetivo que indica acción

En este ejemplo la forma "ing" indica una acción que se está realizando, equivale en realidad a:

3- Como infinitivo

5- Por toda una oración
