QUESTION TAGS

IMPORTANTE

Veamos algunos ejemplos:
I wish/If only I had a Ferrari.
I wish/If only I could speak Japanese.
I wish/If only I knew what to do.
I wish/If only I was rich.
I wish/If only I were rich.

Wish + Past perfect

I wish/If only I’d studied more for my exam.
I wish/if only I hadn’t told them anything.
I wish/if only I’d known what to do.

Wish + would

I wish/If only my neighbours woulnd’t be so noisy.
I wish/If only it didn’t rain so much in this country.
I wish/If only my brother wouldn’t insult me all the time.

Traducción y particularidades de I wish

Por ejemplo: John wishes he had a Ferrari / Mary wishes she could speak Japanese / You wish you were as rich as I am.

Wish + infinitivo

I wish to speak the manager.
 Wish + nombre
I have my exam now, so wish me luck!

WOULD USADO EN PASADO

When I was a girl I would clean my room twice a week

Would clean se traduce por “limpiaba”

Carmen would always drink a glass of orange juice in the morning.

STILL, YET, ALREADY

STILL, YET, ALREADY

STILL
YET
ALREADY

El adverbio “Still”

  • “My grandmother is seventy-nine, and she still works every day at her shop
  • “Do you still live with your parents?”.
  • “It’s 7pm, and I can’t leave the office because I still have to finish a report.
  • “ Are you still angry with your sister?”.
  • “He is still asleep, so don’t wake him up”.
  • “He started his exam an hour ago, and he is still answering the questions”.
  • “Is it still snowing?”. (= continúa nevando, no ha parado)
  • “ When I went to bed, Jane was still working”.
  • “Adam has stopped smoking but his brother still hasn’t quit”.
  • “I took the clock to the repair shop, but it still isn’t working”. .

  • “Are we there yet?”.
  • “Is the report ready yet?”.
  • “Hasn’t dad told you yet? We’re moving to Alaska!”.
  • “Mary can’t go home yet. She hasn’t finished her work”.
  • “They haven’t paid me yet”.
  • “His parents haven’t kicked him out of their house yet”.

“We have yet to hear the big news from Aunt Martha”.
  • “I am still studying at the university because I haven’t graduated yet”.
  • “We still don’t know who our new boss will be. The owners haven’t told us yet”.
  • “I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to quit my job to go travel. I’m still thinking about it”.

  • “Ask Katie to send the article to her editor. She has already sent it.”
  • “I already know what I’m going to buy you for your birthday”.
  • “They’ve already seen Spiderman and really don’t want to see it again”.
  • “I will have already cleaned my room by the time you get home”.
  • “Is Mary already here? She must have driven very fast to get here before me”.
  • “How does he already have the answers to tomorrow’s test?”.
  • “Have they already obtained their visas?”.

THE PERSEIDS

THE PERSEIDS

The Perseids are a prolific meteor showwer associated with the comet Swift-Tuttle. The Perseids are so called because the point from which they appear to come, called the radiant, lies in the constellation Perseus. The name derives in part from the word Perseides, a term found in Greek mythology referring to the sons of Perseus.

The shower is visible from mid-July each year, with the peak in activity between 9 and 14 August, depending on the particular location of the stream. During the peak, the rate of meteors reaches 60 or more per hour. They can be seen all across the sky; however, because of the shower’s radiant in the constellation of Perseus, the Perseids are primarily visible in the Northern Hemisphere. As with many meteor showers the visible rate is greatest in the pre-dawn hours, since more meteoroids are scooped up by the side of the Earth moving forward into the stream, corresponding to local times between midnight and noon.

CENTURY'S LONGEST LUNAR ECLIPSE JULY 27th 2018

CENTURY'S LONGEST LUNAR ECLIPSE JULY 27th 2018

The full moon on the night of July 27-28, 2018, presents the longest total lunar eclipse of the 21st century (2001 to 2100). The total phase of the eclipse – called the totality spans 1 hour 42 minutes and 57 seconds.

Adding to the excitement on eclipse night … this eclipse will happen on the same night that Earth is passing between the sun and Mars, placing Mars at opposition in our sky. In one of the sky’s wonderful coincidences, the Mars opposition happens on July 27, too.
It’s not just any Mars opposition, but the best Mars opposition since 2003. Mars is very bright and red throughout July and August, 2018. But eclipse night will be a very special night. On July 27, the sun, Earth and moon are aligned – placing the moon opposite the sun in our sky – producing an eclipse as Earth’s shadow falls on the moon’s face. On the same night, the sun, Earth and Mars are also aligned, bringing Mars also opposite the sun in our sky, just like the full moon. That’s fun to think about, but there’s more for those who plan to observe the eclipse.
Picture it, if you will. During the long total phase of the July 27, 2018, lunar eclipse – the totality – the moon will turn red from sunlight filtering through Earth’s atmosphere onto the moon’s surface. And Mars will be near the moon, exceptionally bright – brighter than since 2003 – and red in color also.
