WORLD BOOK DAY
Book
lovers are celebrating their favourite stories once again as WORLD
BOOK DAY
is
back and marking its 20th anniversary.
The
annual celebration of authors, illustrators and reading is marked in
more than 100 countries around the world.
The
event sees kids all over the UK dress as their favourite characters,
receive precious book tokens and take part in the events that schools
and community groups
run
to mark the wonder of reading.
Celebrities
are also keen to get in on the act.
Teachers
are also encouraged to don fancy dress costumes and
join in with WORLD
BOOK DAY
2017.
Evidence
suggests that children who read for enjoyment every day not only
perform better in reading tests than those who don’t, but also
develop a broader vocabulary, increased general knowledge and a
better understanding of other cultures.
